ISLAND BRIDGE
The St Huberts Island Bridge is a public infrastructure item that forms part of our everyday road network. It provides the only convenient access on and off the island for residents and visitors to the island, and for this reason the Island residents feel 'ownership ' of the bridge.
The bridge has a difficult history, from the early days of the site selection, construction and remediation efforts over the years. More recently, the Central Coast Councils efforts to rebuild the safety barriers on the bridge attracted a great deal of attention.
Opinions regarding the bridge's appearance, role and public safety issues, vary greatly among the Island Community. The SHIRA Committe understands these varying views.
We are grateful to the Central Coast Council for listening to the community and we will continue to support the Council in their ongoing efforts to look after the bridge.
